Project 1: Superouter

Context

Only 50% of the world population were Internet users. This statement is worrying. Our NGO, Planetlink, aims to develop a hotspot called Superouter, that would connect devices to the Internet via a wireless service provider. It would emit a Wi-Fi signal that users can connect their personal devices to (laptop, tablet, or smart phone) in order to use the Internet. Trough our Superouter app, people can support our work by donating, potential suppliers can get in contact with us and volunteers can either enrol or follow our advancements on a regular basis.

Target

With our product we aim to target remote villages and cities that do not have access to Internet connexion. According to the Digital Information World website, the top ten most disconnected regions, include South Sudan, Eritrea, Burundi, Somalia, Niger, Papua New Guinea, Liberia, Guinea-Bissau, and the Central African Republic. Ideally, we would like to provide those regions with Internet.

Service offered

We aim to create an app to support the creation of a hotspot that would connect devices to the Internet via a cellular (wireless) service provider. It would emit a Wi-Fi signal that users can connect their personal devices to (laptop, tablet, or smart phone) in order to use the Internet. Our app would enable people who want to contrubute to our cause to donate a certain amount of money through our payment platform.

With our product we aim to target remote villages and cities that do not have access to Internet connexion. Ideally, we would like to collaborate with existing Internet providers and companies that own satelites. Thus, the amount of investments needed are sizable.

Web Interface

How does your project relates to Web? How will users access your service? Describe scenario of utilisation.

IChelper is a free application available on all kinds of smartphones (Apple, Android…). As it’s a support application for our Superrooter, indeed, all the users of Superrooter will be helped to downloard and register in this application when they connect to Superrooter, they also will be helped to connect their device to Superrooter. The overall design of this software will be very concise and clear to help network beginners as much as possible.

  1. The first interface of IChelper is the network connection interface. When registering for the first time, the user will first set up two gestures, corresponding to two different network connections, free low-speed network or charged high-speed network; when they want to connect or switch networks, they only need to draw the corresponding gesture on the screen, like a straight line to high-speed network or a certain curve for low-speed.
  2. The second interface of IChelper is a classified collection of most used apps. On this page, we pre-set several categories and a search entry so that users can quickly find the application they want to download, and provide some basic usage tutorials on the application introduction interface.
  3. The third interface of IChelper is a platform for users’ communication. At the top of this interface is an automatic customer service Q&A entry, after clicking to enter, users can find answers to some common questions. And at the bottom of former page, there is a text input window, the medium part is the most recent comments shared by other users.
